Asbestos Removal

Rightway Environmental have recently undertaken the removal of Asbestos Insulation Residues to various locations across the 1st and 2nd floors at the former Elizabeth Shaw Factory in Bristol. This was to enable demolition works to be undertaken which will facilitate redevelopment of the site into 96 apartments and 44 homes.

Elizabeth Shaw Chocolate Factory was a Bristol based company that marketed chocolate-based confectionery including Famous Names Chocolate Liqueurs and Elizabeth Shaw Dinner Mints.  The buildings were constructed in the 1900’s and the site consisted of four parallel buildings. The buildings with their smoking chimneys were a well-known local feature that employed a large number of people.

The asbestos removal works were undertaken over a 5-day period using 4 teams of operatives to construct the 5 enclosures necessary to safely carry out the removal process. The enclosures required the use of fixed scaffolding to ensure the asbestos could be accessed safely and all Operatives on site had PASMA Training as in addition to the fixed scaffolding it was necessary to erect and use scaffold towers to gain access to high level ceilings.
